Inertial attenuators- Sand Barrels

Sand barrels should be used in array as crach cushion for predetermined weight motorvehicles in order to prevent fatal injuries to passengers.

These barrels have been tested and certified to meet the crashworthy requirements of NCHRP-350.

Efficiency of the entire system depends on the compliance to the recommended array. Using other arrays than those submitted to NCHRP-350 tests might not guarantee the same performance.

Moreover, when using crash cushion systems during winter, MTQ requires that at least 5 % of the weight be provided by an homogenious mix of calcium and sand.
